This year I had the opportunity to plan and participate in the National Association of Women in Construction – Philadelphia’s MAGIC (Mentoring A Girl In Construction) Camp. MAGIC is a six day “free” camp offered to 7th – 12th grade girls throughout the region. This year the girls visited the Sprinkler Fitters, Carpenters, Steamfitters, Cement & Plasterers, and Finishing Trades local union training centers to learn about their respective work. The also did a tour of the active job site at the iconic LOVE park.
It was an enjoyable experience to witness the girls plastering walls, making tool boxes, measuring water pressure, plastering and painting walls, cutting glass, and gluing pipe.
